AS/A2 Further Mathematics at St John Fisher Catholic College - Trinity Sixth Form

Course description

 

The course that we follow is EDEXCEL and we use the text books that follow the course.

Lessons go through examples as well as opportunities for lots of discussion with the teacher and with other pupils in the room.

 

 

Course content

The Further Maths course involves Complex Numbers, Numerical solutions of equations, Series, Matrices, Co-ordinate Systems and Proof by Induction. 

It is a further look at the Pure element at Mathematics A Level.

 

Entry requirements

Entry grade 8 or 9 at GCSE Mathematics.

Assessment

AS Level Maths requires 2 modules:

Paper 1: Pure Mathematics is worth 2/3 of the qualification. It is a 100 mark paper and a 2 hour exam.

Paper 2: Statistics and Mechanics is worth 1/3 of the qualification. It is a 50 mark paper and a 1 hour exam

This is a stand alone qualification and does not contribute towards the A2 grade.

A2 Level Maths requires 3 modules:

Paper 1: Pure Mathematics is worth 1/3 of the qualification. It is a 100 mark paper and a 2 hour exam.

Paper 2: Pure Mathematics in more depth is worth 1/3 of the qualification. It is a 100 mark paper and a 2 hour exam.

Paper 3: Statistics and Mechanics is worth 1/3 of the qualification. It is a 100 mark paper and a 2 hour exam.

Future opportunities

An A Level in Further Mathmatics is a much sought after qualification for entry into a wide variety of full time courses at Higher Education. 

The door is open to any career with A Level Maths but it's a key subject for careers in Economics, Accountancy, Architecture, Engineering, Medicine, Teaching, Psychology, Environmental Studies, Computing, IT, Banking, Insurane, Financial Advice, Investments and many more.

Transport

Lessons in The Trinity Sixth Form are taught in two blocks, a morning and an afternoon, with a flexible lunchtime in between. Some students will find that all of their subjects will be taught in the same school, while others may choose subjects taught in another school.

Transport will be provided free during the lunchtime, so you don't have to worry about getting from morning to afternoon classes. Free before and after transport is also available to and from your home school if required.
