Health and Social Care Level 3 at Northampton College

Course description

The student will develop skills and an in-depth understanding of health, including areas such as Human growth and development, Psychology, Communication Skills and infection prevention and control. Below are some vocational units to be studied during the course: - Anatomy and physiology - Equality, Diversity and Rights - Research Project - Personal and Professional Development - Empowerment in health and social care The method of learning is by class based activity, project work and research, including work placements. Work experience: one day per week plus block weeks per year including Day centres, nursing homes, special schools. Performance in placement acts as evidence for vocational practice. You will need to gain clearance from the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS).

Course content

This course is for students who wish to progress into Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Paramedic professions.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade C or above including English Language and Mathematics, or an equivalent Level 2 qualification at Merit Grade or above plus GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade C or above. A Science GCSE at Grade C is also desirable. This course requires you to undertake work placement as part of your training. You will be working with children and vunerable adults in your placement and will therefore need to gain clearance from the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS).

Assessment

The course is assessed through written assessments such as reports following research, practical work, presentations, displays and placement logs.

Future opportunities

Progression: Successful completion of the 90 Credit Diploma in Year 1 will enable you to progress to the Extended Diploma which equates to 3 A Levels in total.

If you are aged 19 or over at the start of the course you will be required to pay Awarding Board Registration Fee of approximately £185 which is payable at enrolment.
