BTEC Level 3 90-credit Diploma Science at Sheffield Park Academy

Course description

The BTEC National Extended Diploma in Science is suitable for learners who are interested in a career in Science. The Diploma would allow entry to a higher education qualification (degree), nursing or would lead to employment as a laboratory technician. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on real workplace situations, activities and demands. A Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels which means that when you have completed the course you can choose to get a job or progress into higher education.

Course content

Course description – Year 1

Units studied in the first year are Developing Effective Communication, Equality, Diversity and Rights, Health, Safety and Security, Personal and Professional Development, Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, Physical Science for Health, Mobility and Exercise, Health Education.


Course description – Year 2

Units studied in the second year are Development through Life Stages, Public Health, Biochemistry, Human Inheritance, Microbiology, Personal and Professional Development, Sociological and Psychological Perspectives, Physiology of Fluid Balance and Science in Practice.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or four at grade B, including Maths and English  at grade 4 or above
