Fashion & Textiles A level at Stanground Academy
This creative and thought-provoking qualification gives you the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers, especially those in the creative industries.
You will investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to your learning in to practice by producing products of your choice. You will gain a real understanding of what it means to be a designer, alongside the knowledge and skills sought by higher education and employers.
The exams and non-exam assessment will measure how students have achieved the following assessment objectives.
· AO1: Identify, investigate and outline design possibilities to address needs and wants.
· AO2: Design and make prototypes that are fit for purpose.
· AO3: Analyse and evaluate: design decisions and outcomes, including for prototypes made by themselves and others wider issues in design and technology.
· AO4: Demonstrate and apply knowledge and understanding of: technical principles designing and making principles.
5+A*-B grades at GCSE including grade 5 or above in English and Maths and grade C in an art or design based subject.
50% exam (maths and science contribute 15%) for both AS and A-level, with two papers for A-level.
Year 1 – Core technical principles and core designing and making principles. Questions Mixture of short answer, multiple choice and extended response questions.
Year 2 – Additional specialist knowledge, core technical and core designing and making principles. Questions – Section A - Product analysis, up to six short answer questions based on visual stimulus of product(s).
Section B: Commercial manufacture, two extended response questions worth a total of 50% non-exam assessment (NEA) for A-level.
NEA consists of a single design and make activity for both AS and A-level. For A-level you are free to choose your own design.
Successful completion of this course enables you to progress to higher qualifications ie. Degree courses and foundation courses in Fine art, graphics, illustration, computer art, fashion design, interior design, 3d design architecture and photography.
This subject goes well with mathematics, science, art, product design, English and history
