What does the subject include?

The course consists of the following units:

·                     Maintain safety of self and others in the workplace        

 ·                     Assist with the catching and restraining of small animals

·                     Assist with feedstuffs for small animals

·                     Check that a small animal is healthy

·                     Assist with the care of animals

·                     Purchasing and waste

·                     Management

·                     Assist with planting and establishing plants.

·                     Assist with maintaining plants.

·                     Assist with the movement of animals

·                     Maintain the health of horses

·                     Groom a small animal

·                     Working as a team

·                     Assist with animal accommodation

·                     Assist with the movement and handling of small animals

·                     Independent Living Skills

·                     Duke of Edinburgh Award/John Muir Award

·                     Tutorial

·                     Literacy and Numeracy

You are appointed a Personal Tutor for the duration of the course.

Entry requirements

A minimum of four GCSE’s at grade E including Maths and English.

Successful college interview.

Assessment

Practical skill development, with an emphasis on learning within a practical environ­ment. Both skills and knowledge are continually assessed through the completion of assignments.  You will also complete a period of work experience on-site during the course of the year.
