Health and Social Care A Level at Farlingaye High School
This two year qualificatiion, offered at six-unit level, gives a broad vocational introduction to Health & Social Care.
Students are actively encouraged to experience not only the theoretical aspects detailed below, but also periods of work placement, links with local employers, case studies and they are expected to take part in primary research to help with assignments.
The following six units are studied:
- Promoting quality care – Exam AS
- Communication in care settings
- Promoting good health
- Care practice and provision
- Child development
- Social trends – Exam A2 Assessment
(GCSE grades) Health & Social Care (if studied) at merit or C in English is preferred.
A combination of portfolio (two thirds) and external assessment (one third).
External examiners verify the quality of assignments.
Further studies in Higher Education on such courses as Social Work, Criminology, Midwifery, Clinical Psychology, Radiography, Nursery Nursing and General Nursing are all currently being undertaken by former students.
Employment, particularly within the private sector, has also been achieved in recent years to good effect.
