Business CTEC Level 3 at Christ The King College

Course description

This Business qualification is designed to provide an understanding of business in a vocational environment. The course allows students to be fully in control of their own destiny. The 100% coursework format and the flexible range of units studied allows students to investigate areas of business that interest them. In addition to your class work, you will have the scope to experience a range of business environments through visits and enterprise projects.

Cambridge Technicals are a suite of qualifications operated by OCR and are a very similar to the BTECs, but with enhanced support offered by OCR. They accumulate equivalent UCAS points to BTECs and traditional A level courses.

They are recognised by most universities including Warwick & Nottingham, though some members of the Russell Group will not accept Business related subjects.

 

Course content

Throughout the course, students will develop a range of skills desirable in the workplace and in higher education: independent investigation, team work, giving presentations, interpreting data and marketing and sales skills to name but a few.

Entry requirements

Students need 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above including English. Previous study of Business will prove useful, but students without a Business Studies background do equally well. A good grounding in Maths would also be helpful along with an interest in current affairs.

Assessment

Three units in year 1 and an additional three units in year 2. Each unit consists of between 5 and 8 tasks, all of which must be completed to at least a Pass standard in order to gain the qualification.

100% coursework (Graded Pass, Merit or Distinction) Units are marked internally, and externally moderated.

Future opportunities

This course can lead to a variety of Business based Degrees such as: Economics, Business, Business Administration, Marketing, International Business, ICT and Accounting to name but a few! Students studying Business can go in to a wide range of careers such as: Marketing, Administration, Human Resources, Accountancy and Purchasing or setting up your own business. The skills you will learn in this course and the knowledge of the operation of business organisations will help you whatever career you choose
