Sport BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Sport at Bedford College

Course description

This course will combine both theory and practical sessions to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of a range of sports-related occupations. Successful completion of this course would enable you to progress to the Sport BTEC Level 3 Diploma. You will also have full access to the College’s successful sport academies, which offer top training in a range of sports, including football, rugby, basketball and more.

Course content

This course will focus on sport development and coaching, while also giving you an underpinning knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the human body.

During the course you can study the following units:

  • Fitness for sport
  • Practical sports performance
  • The mind and sports performance
  • The sports performer in action
  • Training for personal fitness
  • Leading sports activities
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Lifestyle and well-being
  • Injury and the sports performer
  • Running a sports event
  • Carrying out a sports-related project
  • Designing exercise programmes
  • Work experience in sport
  • Functional Skills in English
  • Functional Skills in Maths.

 

In addition to the main qualification you will also be given the opportunity to go on a range of trips, including scuba-diving, skiing, snowboarding, paintballing, camping, a football tour, a basketball tour or a rugby tour. At the end of June you will be invited to attend the Sports department Oscars awards evening, giving you the chance celebrate a successful year.

Entry requirements

To begin this course you will need:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade A*-D (including English) OR
  • Sport Level 1 Diploma AND
  • a keen interest in sport.

Assessment

All BTEC work will be assessed through assignments, which can consist of written essays, presentations, group discussion, practical observation and poster production. Function Skills will be assessed through formal exams.

Financial information

This course could be free! You will be eligible if you are aged 19-24 on the 31st August of the year you are starting your course and are actively seeking employment and in receipt of a means tested benefit (such as job seekers, housing benefit, council tax benefit). Please note you will need to be able to produce evidence of the benefit in your name when you come to enrol.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you can progress on to the Sport (Development, Coaching & Fitness) Level 3, or the Sport (Football Excellent Scheme) Level 3.

Further information

To take part in this course there will be an additional fee of approximately £30 for required clothing. You will need to spend £50 to attend trips that will complement your course.
