English Literature A level at Wadham School

Course description

Students suited to this course should have an imaginative and empathetic mind, a critical eye, an enjoyment of reading,perseverance and good organisational skills.

Entry requirements

One of your 5+ passes at GCSE must be in English Literature. Ideally, you should have a C+ pass in English Language.

Assessment

Exam Board - OCR

The A-Level comprises of three components:

Component 1: Shakespeare, Drama and Pre-1900 Poetry – assessment by written examination (40%) Component 2: Close Reading and Comparative and Contextual Study of Texts – assessment by written examination (40%)

Component 3: Critical piece or recreative piece with commentary – assessment by coursework An AS-Level one year course is designed to be co-teachable alongside the two year course.
