Beauty Therapy - City & Guilds Level 2 at Chichester College

Course description

The VRQ course in Beauty Therapy covers a variety of subject areas, which will allow you to carry out a wide range of beauty treatments. The course includes underpinning knowledge of science and business studies. Progress is subject to continuous assessment, with tutorial guidance and support. Students will be assessed in practical areas and in theoretical areas through online tests,oral questioning and record keeping. 

Course content

At Level 2: Working in beauty related industries, Health & Safety, Client care and communication, Promote products and services, Reception duties, Facial skin care, Waxing techniques , Manicure and Pedicure, Make-up, Eye Treatments and Create and image. If you gain a C in Maths or English you will not need to complete any Maths or English this academic year. If you achieve a D in your GCSE you will go on to resit GCSE at college, if you get below a D you will complete Functional Skills from Entry 3 up to L2. You will be required to complete 1 Weeks work experience in a salon or customer related business. If you are aged 16-18 you will follow a study programme consisting of your main qualification, English and maths, enterprise and enrichment. 

Theory and practical lessons will be delivered over 3 days a week. Much of the learning process will be student centred and will require commitment, dedication and the ability to conduct independent research.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at D grade or above, an elementary science background, a successful interview with the course tutor and a keen interest in developing skills for the Beauty Industry. 


Practical assessments and treatments will be carried out in a commercial salon. Assessments will also be via online tests and students will be required to complete a portfolio of work.

Future opportunities

Working as a Beauty Therapist in Salons, Spas, Cruise Ships, Airlines, Health Resorts, Department stores or as a self employed Beauty Therapist.

Further information

Course progression: Successful completion of VRQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy, with a minimum attendance of 90% and a progression and capability interview to proceed to Level 3.
