Health and Social Care BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Southport College

Course description

This course is designed to provide you with a choice of routes into either further study at degree level or employment within the health and social care sector. It is an ideal starting block if you are looking to pursue a career in nursing, social work or occupational therapy.

Course content

You will learn about a range of subject areas including: 
Development through the lifespan
Caring for children and young people
Supporting and protecting adults
Fundamentals of anatomy & physiology for health and social care

Entry requirements

Minimum 5 GCSEs at A*- C including English and maths or Merit in a related Level 2 Diploma and C or above in English and maths
Satisfactory DBS*
Successful interview
Satisfactory reference


You will be continuously assessed throughout the course. Each module is assessed through College-based assignments that are externally moderated. You will attend a relevant Health and Social care setting for work placement one day a week, your progress will be closely monitored, by setting clear objectives, supervision and assessment.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course, you may progress on to further study at university level on courses such as: nursing diploma/degree (adult or mental health branches), occupational therapy, social work or other social work related courses. Also you may progress onto the Level 4/5 Higher National Certificate/Diploma within the college. You may also progress into employment in roles within the health and social care sector.
