Course description

Are you interested in the exciting world of

business and enterprise? Do you feel that

working within an office environment is for

you? This course helps you develop the

skills and knowledge to provide the

essential ‘behind the scenes’ support that

helps businesses to run smoothly.

Enterprise will be a big part of your studies.

You will have the opportunity to run a small

profit making business enterprise, working

as part of a team.

You will study 8 units relating to business,

retail and administration from the following:

- Starting work in Business, Retail and

Administration

- Working in Business, Retail and

Administration

- Introducing customer service

- Personal effectiveness

- Social responsibility at work

- Financial management

- Ensuring personal Health and Safety at

work

- Communicating effectively at work

- Introduction to Retail

- Introduction to Administration

Entry requirements

Entry Level:

To enrol onto an entry level qualification, you will need everyday skills in reading and writing, basic

literacy and numeracy skills and a willingness to learn. There are no formal entry requirements but you

will be expected to complete an assessment to demonstrate that you are working at an appropriate level.

As part of your Programme of Study course you will be placed on an English and Maths GCSE Entry

Pathway to help you to improve your skills and your chances of employment.


Level 1:

You will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs (E or above), working at Entry Level 3 or above in English and

Maths and a willingness to learn. Applicants who do not meet these entry requirements will be

assessed on an individual basis by the Curriculum Manager and Curriculum Director. As part of

your course you will study on a Maths and English GCSE Level 1 Pathway to help you to improve

your skills and your chances of employment.

Level 2:

You will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs including Maths or English at D or above or successful completion

of a Level 1 course with Functional Skills Maths or English. If you have not already achieved a Level 2 or

GCSE grade C or above in Maths or English, you will study on a Maths and English GCSE Level 2

Pathway. This will increase your chances of employment or progression onto higher education. You will

be assessed and put onto a suitable course which will enable you to achieve a qualification. Applicants

who do not meet these entry requirements will be assessed on an individual basis by the Curriculum

Manager and Curriculum Director.

Level 3:

You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs (C or above), one of which must include a C or above in Maths or

English (or Adult Literacy or Numeracy Level 2 or successful completion of a Level 2 course with

Functional Skills Maths or English Level 2). If you have not already achieved a Level 2 or GCSE grade C

or above in English or Maths, you will study on a Maths and English GCSE Level 2 Pathway as part of

your Programme of Study. This will increase your chances of employment or progression onto higher

education. You will be assessed and put onto a suitable course which will enable you to achieve a

qualification.

    • By Rail: Anyone travelling by train should disembark at Central Station in Warrington. Our Winwick Road Campus is around a 20 minute walk along the A49 (you will pass the Warrington Wolves RLFC stadium and the Tesco supermarket on your left).

      By Bus: Warrington & Vale Royal College is easily accessible by bus from the town centre and nearby Cheshire districts. Bus numbers* 19, 20, 21, 22 from the Warrington Bus Station to Winwick Road Campus.
