Fashion and Dressmaking City and Guilds Level 1 Certificate at Friends Centre

Course description

Develop your own designs for a garment through research and experimentation with different media. Learn how to make two garments from a choice of unlined skirt, simple trousers, shirt or top. You will choose the material, learn how to measure and fit your garments, create samples of different sewing techniques and produce your own items of clothing. We will use commercial patterns to create the garments, adjusting these to create your own design. You will be expected to undertake at least 1 hour of study at home each week. This course is suitable for complete beginners or those with some experience of using a sewing machine. For those new to using a sewing machine it would be beneficial to attend the ‘Get to Know Your Sewing Machine’ course on 18th or 19th September. An interview is required to ensure that this course is suitable for you.
