French A-Level at Nunthorpe Academy

Course description

Why choose French?

A foreign language is a necessity for the study of languages (including new ones) in Higher Education. It can also be a valuable entry qualification for other HE courses. A foreign language is a highly desirable attribute to take into careers in management, business, science and technology.

What does the course involve?

Both AS and A2 level French focus on topical issues which relate to the French speaking world. Through your French studies, you will develop a greater understanding of the country and be able to express personal opinions on important world issues.

In addition, you will improve your existing speaking, writing and comprehension skills through the study of language structures. Modern French literature may also be studied as part of the A2 course.

Regular weekly conversation classes with the French assistant are organised to help with speaking work and you are strongly encouraged to spend as much time as possible in a French-speaking country or with French-speaking people.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade B or above in Higher Reading or Higher Listening.
