English A - GCSE at Bonus Pastor Catholic College
There are required courses in literature and language, and students are normally entered for both GCSE English and GCSE English Literature. We also offer different learning pathways for different abilities including fast track early GCSE entry for English Language. The Department provides achievement intervention plans on targeted under-achieving groups, such as students who have English as their second language. At KS4 results show continuing high attainment at A*-C and A*-G. You will be encouraged to develop your ability to read, understand, enjoy and respond to a variety of literature, including reading and writing about literature you have read independently. You will develop your ability to recognise themes in texts and compare how different writers approach the same subject. You will read poetry from the twentieth and nineteenth centuries, Drama, including a Shakespeare and a modern play, short stories and novels. You will also read literature from different cultures and develop your sensitivity towards and knowledge of the personal and social experience of others.
With further training, you could go into a job related to English such as a Teacher, Journalist or Editor.
