Art A level *Fees Payable* at Alton Convent School
Students must be introduced to a variety of experiences that explore a range of two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional media, processes and techniques. They should be made aware of both traditional and new media.
Students should explore the use of drawing for different purposes, using a variety of methods and media on a variety of scales. Students may use sketchbooks/workbooks/journals to underpin their work where appropriate.
Students should explore relevant images, artefacts and resources relating to a range of art, craft and ddesign, from the past and from recent times, including European and non-European examples. This should be integral to the investigating and making processes.
Students' responses to these examples must be shown through practical and critical activites that demonstrate their understanfing of different styles, genres and traditions.
At school the Art department will provide all basic materials needed for the course but there will be some additional costs for items such as printing and any other special or particular materials needed by indiviudal students.
At home it is very important that you have your own set of basic materials, including sketching pencils, pain, pastels and brushes to enable you to work freely outside of school. A digital camera may also be useful but this is not essential.
The main cohort into our sixth form is from our year 11 girls with a small number of new applicants arriving from elsewhere. Our Sixth Form Open Evening takes place early in October which is an opportunity to listen to the Head of Sixth Form and current and past sixth formers talking about their experience. A Taster Day where girls are invited to sample sixth form teaching and the enrichment programme follows.
A Pupil Registration Form is completed to express an interest. A detailed application form is available from October returned by December. Interviews take place in the Autumn term and subsequent offers must be accepted by the end of the Spring term.

Scholarships are open to all candidates. Awards will be notified along with the offer of a place and acceptance of awards must be received by the indicated date. Sixth Form Awards must be accepted by the end of December. Where further assistance is required, scholarship awards may be supplemented by a means-tested bursary.

Governors’ Awards are available up to a maximum value of full fees and made on the basis of academic performance, service to the school and community and an interview with the Governors’ selection panel.
The granting of such a prestigious award is conditional on students taking a lead in setting high standards with regard to academic achievement and services to the school.
Applicants for a Governors’ Award should be able to describe their academic achievement, the skills and attributes they can offer and their ambitions for the future.
The fees for the 2015-16 academic year are £4240.00 per term and are inclusive of lunches.
A standard non-refundable registration fee is payable on registering your daughter (payable to ‘Alton Convent School’).
Deposit £500 (not applicable to current students)
A refundable deposit is payable in January on acceptance of a place for the following September. This amount is then reimbursed after your daughter has completed her education in the sixth form.
Lower Sixth girls are encouraged to participate in the HCPT visit to Lourdes at Easter and fundraise to cover the cost for their place on this trip. Depending on which courses are chosen by students, there will be additonal costs for relevant field and theatre trips. Each year there is a Personal Development Course in Wales which girls are encouraged to attend, as well as optional residential visits to Paris, New York, Amsterdam and India.
A sibling discount applies in respect of the fees for a third child enrolled from Reception upwards. Fees are determined annually by the Governing Body early in the summer term. Fees are payable in advance on the first day of each term, although a year’s fees may be paid by standing order through arrangement with the finance officer. Parents are reminded that a full term’s notice is required if a pupil is to be withdrawn from the school.
