Travel and Tourism (Level 3) at New College Swindon

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 Diploma is a full time specialist work-related qualification which will provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding that you need for future employment or further study in higher education.

Course content

The subject of travel and tourism is wide ranging and includes aspects of customer care and administration, as well as the study of destinations, holidays and attractions. You will study a range of core mandatory units and specialist units to include; the business of travel and tourism, event organisation, customer service, etc. In all units the emphasis is on the practical application of knowledge and skills.

Entry requirements

You should have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths and English Language.  A BTEC First Diploma in hospitality (Merit) or related qualifications will also be considered.  Personal commitment, enthusiasm and problem solving skills are essential.


Assessment is by an interesting variety of coursework, practical, projects, assignments and examinations.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of the course could lead to higher education for an HNC/HND, foundation degree or degree, to employment or an apprenticeship in the travel and tourism industry. The Travel and Tourism industry employs a large proportion of the UK population in a diverse range of activities including those of travel agents and tour operators, in the transport and accommodation sectors and in government funded organisations such as the National Trust or VisitBritain.
