Mandarin AS-Level at The Queen's School

Course description

Mandarin is the most widely spoken language in the world and one of the six official languages of the UN. Steeped in history, it is different from Western languages in its appearance and sound and it is said that the process of learning Mandarin will enhance the development of your cognitive skills.

With China’s booming economy, having an understanding of Chinese language and culture at A-level could give you an advantage in the future. So why not learn a language that has seen thousands of years of history yet is very modern?

The lessons will be conducted mainly in Mandarin and you will also have conversation lessons with a native speaker.

Course content

The lessons will be conducted mainly in Mandarin and you will also have conversation lessons with a native speaker.

The AS-level course has accompanying online activities and you will have access to the Q6 languages study room to practise your skills. There are two units at AS-level for the Edexcel examination.

At AS-level there is a speaking test on one of four topics including diet and health, travel, education, hobbies and festivals as well as listening, reading and writing tasks on the above topics.

Entry requirements

At least seven GCSEs at grade B or above and grade A or A* in the subjects you wish to study in Sixth Form. Offers will be made subject to achieving this, a reference from your current school and an interview with the Headmistress

Although the grammar is relatively simple, students will have to be committed to learning characters.
