Course description

Level 2 Children and Young People’s Workforce (CYPW)

Functional Skills Maths and English and ICT at Level 1

(unless you already have GCSE A*-C)

Employee Rights and Responsibilities

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

This qualification will provide you with a broad understanding of working with children and young people. It gives you the practical skills and knowledge required to work in for example: - nurseries and pre-schools. You will learn about children’s development, how to support them to learn and develop through various activities, how to provide a positive environment and promote positive behaviours, how you work with other professionals and a number of optional units depending on the employment you’re working in.

Course content

How will I learn?      

Off- the- Job

This involves working with your assessor, completing assignments or activities and collecting work evidence. These will enable you to fit your learning activities into a set of standards which have been designed by the industry.         

On-the-Job

This means spending most of your time with your team learning how to do the job with support and direction from your employer.

Future opportunities

Level 3 Early Years Educator – This is a mandatory requirement if you wish to be counted in staff ratio’s and is a “Licence to Practice”. You can progress to Deputy Manager and Manager and from the Level 3 onto the Early Years Foundation Degree or Management qualifications once you’ve gained enough experience.
