Further Mathematics AS & A Level at Presdales School
You will receive all of your Pure Mathematics lessons in a separate group dedicated to students studying both Maths and Further Mathematics courses.
By the end of Year 12 you will have completed six Mathematics modules. They comprise three of the four Core Mathematics modules required for A Level Mathematics and the applications modules Statistics 1 and Mechanics 1 as well as the module Further Pure Mathematics 1. In Year 13 you will complete the fourth Core Mathematics module and the modules Further Pure Mathematics 2 and Further Pure Mathematics 3 as well as Statistics 2, Mechanics 2 and Decision Mathematics 1.
If you complete all twelve modules your awards will be A Level Mathematics and A Level Further Mathematics. If you choose to complete a total of nine modules which meet the specification requirements then your awards will be A Level Mathematics and AS Level Further Mathematics.
Students are required to have obtained at least a grade A in GCSE Mathematics.
You will have a flair for mathematics and a love of tackling challenging questions.
Each module is assessed by a one and a half hour written examination. Modules C1, C2, C3, FP1, S1 and M1 are assessed in June of Year 12. Module C4 and the remaining modules are assessed at the end of Year 13.
Having two mathematics A Level results sets you on the path to success in many university courses and towards an exciting career. You will have advanced knowledge of all branches of mathematics, both pure and applied and will be highly regarded. Further Mathematics is considered highly desirable for many prestigious degree courses in the fields of Mathematics, Physics and Engineering.
