Music A Level at St Wilfrid's RC College

Course description

In Y12 AS: Students study 3 units: Performing, Composing and Developing Musical Understanding.
They perform one or more solo or ensemble pieces lasting 5-6 minutes at the end of year 12 and
produce a composition to a brief and create sleeve notes. In the ‘Developing Musical Understanding’
exam paper they analyse the set works and arrange a piece of music for 4 voice parts.
In Y13 A2: Students study 3 units: Extended Performance, Composition & Technical Study and
Further Musical Understanding. They perform as a soloist in a recital lasting 12-15 minutes at the end
of year 13, produce a composition to a brief and complete a technical study. In the ‘Further Musical
Understanding’ exam paper they analyse new music through listening and answer questions on the
set works.
