Sociology AS/A2 Level at Deyes High School

Course description

Sociology is the study of what happens in society and why it happens. Sociology will give you a new understanding of the society we live in and insight into the way human life is organised.

You will be supported within a very successful department that enables our students to beat their target grades. Many students are inspired to go on to study Sociology at university. Sociology offers you fresh eyes, a spark in debate and academic confidence.

Course content

Sociology lessons are varied, interesting and challenging with lively discussions. You will watch documentary material, read articles, work creatively with others and get involved in whole class discussions about the issues we study. Sociology is an interactive subject and you are encouraged to explore it and deepen your understanding in creative ways that fit how you learn best.


The units covered are:

Families and Households

Education with Research Methods

Mass Media

Crime and Deviance with Research Methods

Entry requirements

Grade B in English and Grade C in Maths.


There will be one examination per unit. All units will be examined in summer. You will be assessed regularly by the department to ensure you are confident and competent in your application of Sociological theory to exam questions.

Future opportunities

Sociology is a valuable qualification for many professions which include care work, media, personnel, journalism and teaching.
