Gym/Fitness Instructor Certificate Level 2 at St Helens College

Course description

With this course, you'll develop knowledge of working and managing a leisure facility like a gym, whilst gaining work experience in a real environment.

In St Helens College you'll be undergoing training yourself, and learning about anatomy and physiology, how to lead fitness sessions and plan an effective training programme for a client.

This provides a valuable insight into working in the leisure industry and will set you on the track for your future career.

Entry requirements

You should have four GCSEs at grade D or above.

English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.


You will be assessed through a combination of multiple choice examinations, practical observations, written and oral questions, assignment work, observations, short tests, work experience and work books.

Financial information

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2016), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation.

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion of this course, you will have the necessary skills and knowledge to launch a successful career within the fitness industry as a gym instructor.

Alternatively, you may choose to progress onto the level 3 Active IQ Certificate in Personal Training, leading onto the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science, which could then take you onto university to study a sports and fitness related degree.
