The 2 compulsory theory units of the course are assessed by external onscreen tests under exam conditions.  The remaining practical units are assessed internally, and you will use a variety of software, multimedia tools and techniques to develop an electronic portfolio for each unit. These will be used to assess the standard you have reached.

Future opportunities

Achieving a BTEC First qualification in I&CT should help you to progress to a level 3 course at College depending on the grade you achieve.  This course is well suited for students who wish to progress onto a BTEC Level 3 course such as Games Production or Software development, or onto an A level course such as ICT or Computing.  If you choose to go into a job, this course has clear links to careers in computing, business administration or trainee management.

Many New College Level 3 courses also require GCSE grade C in English and Maths.  This course structure provides sufficient time for you to study GCSE qualification alongside it should you need to.  If you are studying for both Maths and English, you are advised to select the BTEC First Certificate in I&CT which will allow you more time to devote to these other important qualifications.
