Course description

Economics is the study of how the world’s resources are shared out between individuals and countries.

Why study Economics?
This course will give you an insight into economic issues as they appear in the media, for example interest rate changes, the growth of the EU, issues over government funding and the UK economy.

- The market mechanism, market failure and government intervention.
- The measurement of macroeconomic performance.
- How the macroeconomy works.

- Macroeconomic policy.

A2 Topics

As AS Level but also including:
- How the macroeconomy works.
- Economic performance.
- Financial markets and monetary policy.
- Fiscal policy and supply side policies.
- The international economy.

Entry requirements

GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade B or above are desirable. The study of Economics at GCSE is not a requirement.

Future opportunities

This is a particularly good choice for those wanting to go onto Higher Education after Sixth Form. Students go on to study a range of Economics degrees in preparation for employment in International Banking, Government, Politics and a range of management positions.
