Art Graphics AS/A2 at Sir Frederic Osborn School

Course description

The world of graphic design affects us in our everyday life in
many forms, from street signage and billboards to the
chocolate bars, music videos and clothes we use daily.
This course opens students’ eyes to look at this world more closely.
Students will examine the many ways to make graphic art through
colour, illustration, type, computer graphics, printing, layout and
even in 3D. They will also look at the world of communication and
how the use of text and image can suggest meanings. Students
analyse these both visually and through written work to explore
the purposes and roles of graphic styles and art forms. Students
therefore learn how to talk and write convincingly about what they
observe in the work they look at and how they have gone about
making their own.
Students will need to be passionate about visual things and excited
by contemporary art and design. Whilst this is a graphics course, it
will also look at the fine arts and welcome students with interests
in fine art.
