AS/A2 Levels: Physics at Hind Leys College (Iveshead School)
A Level Physics allows students to study a wide range of aspects from Newtonian mechanics to how particles behave at a quantum level.
Students develop the skills to apply their understanding mathematically, and become competent in investigation skills, independently carrying out a range of practical investigations.
Minimum of grade 4 in English and grade 5 in Maths and 3 other A*-C GCSEs. B grade in Additional Science, or Physics.
There are three exam papers for this qualification, each lasting 2 hours. Each exam paper includes assessment of practical skills alongside the theory learned throughout the course. At least 15% of the marks for A-level Physics are based on what was learned during practicals. 40% of the assessment will require use of mathematical skills.
This course is suitable for students who wish to pursue careers in mechanical, civil, electrical or chemical engineering, research, medical physics and mathematically based professions such as accountancy.
You could take this course with other advanced level courses to prepare for higher education in a science related subject or more general higher education courses.
With further training, you could go into a job related to Physics such as engineering, both mechanical and electrical, electronics, architecture, materials engineering and metallurgy.
