Course description

What has shaped the world we live in?

Geography is a dynamic and inspirational subject. It will fill you with a sense of wonder. From ice ages to river floods, hurricanes to earthquakes, poverty, globalization and the exploitation of resources in the developing world. Geography has something for everyone.

Geographers are multi-skilled. They are able to analyse and interpret information on a variety of scales and from a range of resources. Geographers are mathematicians, scientists, sociologists and psychologists.

Course content

Plate Tectonics and associated hazards - Plate movements, Vulcanicity, Seismicity


  • Weather & climate and associated hazards
  • Word Cities - Megacities, urban decline & regeneration, sustainability

Contemporary Challenges and Conflicts -
Conflicts around the world, the challenge of global poverty, the challenge of multicultural societies in the UK, conflict over resources.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade C or above in Geography
If no Geography, you are welcome - but we would ask that you have at least a GCSE grade C in Science and English


1. Contemporary Geographical Issues - 2 1/2 hours exam - 30% of A2 Level Paper
2. Geographical Fieldwork Investigation - 1 1/2 hour exam - 20% of A2 Level
