Travel and Tourism Advanced Level at Dallam School
Our aims are to encourage and grown your interest and understanding of the travel and tourism industry. You will get the opportunity to study the scale of the industry, extend your knowledge and develop research and analytical skills. Travel and Tourism is a vocational A Level and forms part of our IBCP offer.
The AS (double) Travel & Tourism course consists of six topics including:
Autumn Term: Unit 1 - Introducing the Travel and Tourism Industry. An introduction to the fastest growing service industry in the world.
Spring Term: Units 2 & 3 - these units run concurrently - * Customer Services/Travel Destinations/organising travel/international travel/visitor attractions.
Summer Term: Completion of Portfolios. Start of A2 course.
The A2 (double) Travel & Tourism course consists of a further six units including:
Autumn Term: Planning and Managing a Travel and Tourism event
Spring Term:Tourism Development, marketing, human resources
Summer Term - Optional units: Adventure Tourism/Ecotourism/Cultural Tourism or a Guided Tour
You should have 4C’s and 2D’s at GCSE or equivalent.
Successful candidates will be awarded on AS grade A-E and this counts as 50% of a full A level and they may then choose to go on to follow the A2 course, which leads to a full A level in Travel & Tourism award.
The AS/A level qualification is accepted for many university courses. Travel and tourism can be studied as a stand-alone qualification at university or in association with other subjects, such as History, Geography, Media, Sport, etc. the list is endless. An A level in Travel and Tourism can lead onto careers in hospitality, airlines, tour operations, travel agencies, visitor attractions, hospitality and management. Past students have gone on to work in many of these both in the UK and overseas.
