Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Sport/ TUFC Programme at Paignton Community Sports Academy
This is a fantastic option for those with a keen interest in Sport and would either like to seek employment or in the future, further their education to level 3 (‘A level’) standard.
What will I be learning?
Students will study a total of 7 units, focussing on different areas of Sport over a period of 1 academic year: Practical Sport, Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport, Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition for Sports Performance, Planning and Leading Sports Activities, Psychology for Sports Performance and Injury in Sport.
English and Mathematics GCSE retakes must be studied alongside this qualification if students do not have a grade C or higher.
How will I learn/ be assessed?
The course has been designed to be a vocational course. The course covers a range of units and will allow you the opportunity to develop your skills and broaden your knowledge. The course is 100% assignment based. There are typically 3 assignments per unit. All assignments are graded on a pass, merit or distinction basis.
Our teachers try their very best to make sure that the learner’s assessment preferences are met throughout the course. For example, if individual learners prefer to be assessed practically rather than through the production of written reports, every effort will be made to accommodate this.

Play in weekly national and local competition,
Work with professional UEFA qualified football coaches everyday on Paignton Academy’s state-of-the-art, full sized 3G pitch,
Opportunities of playing for full TUFC youth team,
Attend all Torquay United first team fixtures at Plainmoor free of charge,
As well as the course having a truly worldwide appeal, with many local students mixing with those from Canada, Australia, Denmark and Cyprus; to date five students have managed to acquire full youth team contracts,
The 2012/13, TUFC Development Squad were both South-West Area champions and reached the last eight of the British Colleges Sport National Cup, The Level 2 Diploma is worth the equivalent of 4 GCSES.
