Anatomy and Physiology

Bones, Joints, Muscles, Muscle Innervations, Cardiovascular Control and Response to Exercise, Respiratory System - Pulmonary and Celluar Gaseous Exchange and Bio Mechanics

Aquiring Movement Skills

Classification of Skill, Information Processing, role of Memory, Feedback, Reaction Time, Transfer Effects of Arousal Level

Socio-Cultural Studies

The organisation of sport in the UK and in other areas of the world. The surviving British ethnic sports, Performance enhancing products, Sponorship and the media, Violence in Sport and The Olympic Games.

A2 - Two Modules

Theroy Unit 70% - 2 1/2 Hour Exam (Unit G453)

Exercise and Phiology

The role of the energy systems in enhancing performance. Training methods and principals to improve VO2 Max, strength and flexibility. The role of the Ergogenic Aids.

Sports Psychology

Personality and sport, Group dynamics i.e creating team cohesiveness, Leadership, the mental control needed for optimum performance. Control of arousal levels. The affects of an audience.

Historical Studies

Sport pre 1800, what changes occurred as a result of the Industrial Revolution. the creation of the National Governing Bodies and the origins of the present major games. Public schools and their influence on sport and The development of sport within the state education system.
