Creative Media Production (Games) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at South Tyneside College
The games industry is one of the fastest growing media sectors, with GTA5 grossing $800m during its first day release. If you're a gamer looking to take the leap from player to developer our course is an ideal way to begin building your game dev skills.
During this course you will explore the various disciplines of game development such as designing the game experience, producing in-game artwork and coding game functionality. We work with the latest industry standard software including 3DS Max, Photoshop, Game Maker, Unreal 4 and Unity 5; ensuring that you'll be as industry ready as possible when you finish the course. By the end of the first term all students will have created a 2D platformer in Game Maker complete with custom art, functionality and level design.
4 GCSE grades at C or above including English Language and Maths, or full level 2 diploma in Media/ICT or related area.
While no prior experience is required before starting this course, we'd encourage students to begin experimenting with gaming middleware such as Game Maker before arriving in September. Game Maker is a free application with lots of great beginner tutorials on video sites such as YouTube.
