Painting and Decorating - Diploma Level 1 at Middlesbrough College
This course is designed for students who are interested in entering the Construction Sector as a Painter & Decorator. You will develop a good system of work to enable you to work efficiently and safely in today’s competitive market putting you on the right path to success from your very first day. The course has a range of exciting content where you will have the opportunity to learn and gain the skills necessary to produce work to a high standard. You will learn how to protect the work area and work in a professional safe manner producing work that is pleasing to the eye. You will be shown how to hang a range of wallpapers as well as all other traditional aspects of painting & decorating. Some learners from the course will be chosen to represent the college at local and national skills competitions. Tutors will support learners into real life work placements that will help you to develop your understanding of what the industry is about whilst preparing you for the world of work. The college’s excellent links with employers could open the door to employment with training in the form of an Apprenticeship or full time employment. Health and safety is paramount within the industry and you will be trained in all aspects of this to ensure that you are kept safe throughout the programme and all work placements.

4 GCSE’s with a minimum grade of E including Maths, English Language and Science and satisfactory references. Minimum of E3 initial assessment for Maths and English. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."
On-going assessment will take place throughout the course with a strong emphasis on practical skills. There are also a number of short theory tests and a multiple choice on-line exam at the end of the course. Units 101 and 201 Examinations provided on e-volve Units 116, 117, 118, 119 and 120 Multiple choice question paper, covering knowledge outcomes. Practical assignment, covering performance outcomes.
On successful completion of this course, you can progress to Level 2 Diploma. You could progress onto an Apprenticeship programme if you have an employer where you would be paid for working and still attend college for one day per week.
