Course description

The course is divided into 3 large topic areas covering the following: -

1 Physical chemistry, 2 Inorganic chemistry, 3 Organic chemistry.

Course content

Year 1

Unit 1, Foundation chemistry

Unit 2, chemistry in action

 

Year 2

Unit 3, Kinetics, equilibria and organic chemistry

Unit 4, energetics, Redox and Inorganic chemistry

Entry requirements

B/5 Grade in Sciences

Assessment

Course is divided into 3 examinations to be taken at the end of the course.

Paper 1 is a written exam lasting 2 hours covering any content from physical chemistry with a small part on inorganic chemistry, including relevant practical skills.

Paper 2 is a written exam lasting 2 hours covering any content from physical chemistry with a small part on organic chemistry, including relevant practical skills

Paper 3 is a written exam lasting 2 hours covering any content from topics and any practical skills

Financial information

The course is open to anyone who is aged 16-18 on the 31st August,  in the year that the course starts

Future opportunities

Studying Chemistry gives you the opportunity to progress onto a chemistry based degree at university or other related degrees such as Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry or Pharmacology. Future careers can include Chemical Engineering, Nursing, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science and Archaeology.
