English as a second language at Wrenn Academy

Course content

English as a second language (E2L) international GCSE is examined by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) syndicate and is taken by 35,000 students each year worldwide. It has been designed for students whose mother tongue is not English, but for whom English is the lingua franca or language of study. During the two-year course, pupils will develop their proficiency in English in all four skills – Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. Pupils will be taught in small groups using a wide range of techniques. The emphasis will be on rapid progress – and also having fun! The examination consists of two written papers – Reading and Writing (70%) and Listening (30%). A separate grade is given for Speaking. There are two tiers of entry:- “Extended” ( Grades A* to E) and “Core” ( Grades C to G). Please speak to Mrs. Holland if you would like further details or would like to discuss any aspect of the English as a Second Language course.
