Music Technology Level 3 Extended Diploma at Coleg y Cymoedd

Course description

This is a three AS Level equivalent course (or 3 A Levels if undertaken after the Level 3 Diploma).The Extended Diploma is made up of eighteen units - five core units, which everyone takes, and other specialist units.

You are able to gain in skills and confidence within a supportive environment created by well-qualified and committed staff, as well as having access to excellent facilities and resources.

Course content

The course encompasses many facets of music with particular emphasis on the use of professional audio software and hardware in music production and recording. The college has a state of the art studio equipped with a Pro Tools HD3 system to assist in the delivery of the course and introduces you to the industry standard in digital audio workstation technology.

You will also receive tuition in the more traditional aspects of music practice, including: music performance techniques and music theory and harmony. The historical development and context of popular music is also included, in addition to business and vocational skills to provide you with a sound knowledge of the music industry.

The course is offered in a high specification building at the Rhondda Campus with its state of the art studio facility. The lecturing staff all have first-hand industry experience.

Entry requirements

AS Level at grades A*-C in Music or a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in a related creative subject.

You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.

Assessment

There is continuous assessment throughout the course for practical and written assignments. All units are internally assessed and externally moderated.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you could further your studies with a degree course. Employment opportunities exist on a free-lance or employee basis through Apprenticeships or employment.
