Art and Design Level 1 Diploma - UAL at Stoke on Trent College

Course description

This course offers you the opportunity to experience working with a wide range of art and design processes.  This involves developing the skills of painting, drawing, mixed media, graphics and three dimensional design as well as exploring new technology such as digital photography and image manipulation.  The course also aims to equip you with an understanding of the design process and study skills required to achieve success in the future. The Media and Performing Arts Department is equipped with a variety of specialist facilities and equipment including art and design studios, as well as Apple Mac Graphics and Multimedia workshops.

Entry requirements

2 GCSE's grade E-G (new grade 1-2), Entry Level 3, or another relevant Entry Level qualification. You will have a pre-induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.

Assessment

This course is assessed by continual assessment, rather than exams.  Students research, plan and produce practical work.   All assignments have interim assessment points, this is when the lecturer assesses the work and shows the student how to improve their grades.  Students requiring any support in producing written work, organising themselves or managing their time can access our academic mentors.  All students work is moderated by the awarding body.

With a level 1 Diploma in Art & Design you can progress on to a range of courses, including level 2 Diplomas in Art & Design or Games and Broadcast Media.  All students receive careers advice from their tutor and student services.
