Business & Administration Level 3 Apprenticeship at Richard Huish College

Course description

Business and Administration skills are essential to many occupations; employers recognise the importance of these skills and rate them as some of the most diffi cult to recruit for.

Gaining a Business and Administration NVQ can help to reduce the margin of administrative error and improve effi ciency within your organisation. Business and Administration will provide a base for identifi cation, improvement and development of organisational policies, procedures and systems.

The Business and Administration NVQ Diploma level 3 is for people whose role involves carrying out administrative duties with a considerable amount of responsibility and autonomy. The individual will be contributing to the development and implementation of administrative procedures.

Course content

Mandatory Units

  • Manage own performance in a business environment
  • Evaluate and improve own performance in a business environment
  • Work in a business environment
  • Communicate in a business environment

Business and Administration optional units include:

  • Contribute to decision making in a business environment
  • Prepare text from notes using touch typing (60wpm)
  • Plan and organise an event
  • Plan and organise meetings
  • Deliver a presentation
  • Monitor and solve customer service problems
  • Analyse and report data

Entry requirements

All Advanced Apprentices are required to complete the components listed below in addition to the NVQ Diploma at level three:

Option 1 - Technical Certificate Level 3 in Business and Administration

  • Managing the business environment
  • Ensuring effective work within the business environment
  • Functional Skills: Maths Level 2, English Level 2 & ICT Level 2.

Option 2 - AMSPAR Diploma for Medical Secretaries 

  • Functional Skills: Maths Level 2, English Level 2 & ICT Level 2.


The NVQ Diploma will be carried out in your workplace. All other Advanced Apprenticeship requirements will be completed at Huish Business School through day release. The duration is approximately 18 months.

    • Huish is situated on the edge of parkland overlooking fields and hills, about ten minutes walk from the town centre.

      Huish is committed to encouraging you to travel to college by cycle, public transport or car sharing where possible. There is a cycle path to the College taking you to Vivary Park so that you don’t have to walk or cycle with the traffic along South Road. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to college from the bus station but many of the buses students use come directly to the campus.
