Hospitality & Catering BTEC Level 3 at Broadgreen International School

Course description

Hospitality is a fast paced, vibrant and exciting industry to work in and one that offers opportunities to work all over the world. The Hospitality BTEC Level 3 qualification provides comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the hospitality and catering industry, preparing students with the knowledge and skills to progress to supervisory level roles.

Course content

You will learn Hospitality and Catering in a number of different ways;

• Group discussion

• Peer teaching

• Presentation

• Independent learning

• Research tasks

Entry requirements

As well as an interest in the Hospitality industry, you will need a minimum of 5 GCSE grade A* - C including English and Maths (or equivalent). There will be a lot of research and written work in Hospitality; students are expected to write reports, menus and evaluations. There are also some elements of Maths involved as you will be writing and costing recipes.

Assessment

Assessment on the course is mainly through the completion of written coursework assignments and projects which are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. Some of these will involve visits to outside agencies and seminars from experienced practitioners who are currently working in Hospitality. Other assessment methods include verbal presentations, group projects and practical assessments. Students will be internally assessed for each piece of work they submitthey will be able to achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction for each piece of work.

Future opportunities

This is a level 3 certificate which provides comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the hospitality and catering industry, preparing students with the knowledge and skills to progress to supervisory level roles. It is a qualification which can extend a learner’s programme of study and give vocational emphasis. It will prepare students to enter employment in the hospitality industry or to progress to university studies in Hospitality Management or Food and Nutrition. It gives learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
