Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology - Mechanical Engineering at Leeds City College

Course description

This is a highly advanced level 3 course that requires you to have completed a relevant level 2 qualification.

It has been designed for you to develop your skills further in the mechanical engineering sector. This will give you the knowledge and skills to progress onto an advanced level apprenticeship or employment as a mechanical engineer.

In this course you build on skills built at level 2 Electro Mechanical. The mode of study will be similar however there are a number of units that require a slightly more academic approach. You will be working on 3D Parametric Modeling and Computer Numerical Control.

Course content

Mandatory units:

  • Health and Safety
  • Environmental Awareness

Six optional units:

  • Milling
  • Turning
  • Mechanical Principles
  • CAD
  • CNC
  • Design

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for this course are a minimum of five GCSEs grade D. One of the GCSEs must also be a grade C in maths. Alternatively you could have successfully completed the Level 1 Diploma in Engineering Technology.

A satisfactory college admissions interview is also needed.

Assessment

Mandatory units will be assessed through online multiple choice examination. Optional units will be assessed through successful completion of a number of practical and written tasks.

Future opportunities

After successful completion of this course you will be able to progress onto an advanced level apprenticeship in the industry.

Alternatively you could seek employment.
