Sport and Exercise Sciences (Level 3 Cert/Subsid Dip) at New College Swindon

Course description

The course will provide the opportunity to study the theoretical and practical aspects of Sports and Exercise Sciences.  It will involve you closely in ‘real’ working situations, so that you can develop a sense of responsibility towards your career path and learning process.

Course content

You will study 3 mandatory units plus an optional unit which include:

  • Anatomy for Sport & Exercise
  • Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
  • Sports Coaching
  • Fitness Training & Programming
  • Sport & Exercise Physiology
  • Sports Psychology

Entry requirements

You need 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above (including English language, Maths & Science)

This course can be combined with other A levels.

Assessment

This course has no exams – the emphasis is on learning by doing and is assessed by your written or practical work.

Future opportunities

A growing number of Universities and Colleges of Higher Education offer degrees and Diplomas in Sport Therapy, Sport Science and Sport Coaching.  The Level 3 on its own is equivalent to an A level and can offer a route into these courses.

Other avenues for career opportunity may include the Health Service, Private Health & Fitness Clubs, Sports Development Officers, Personal Training and Sports Coaching.
