Childcare Apprenticeship Level 2 at Malvern Hills College

Course description

This Apprenticeship is for learners who would like to work in the Children and Young People’s workforce. This Level 2 Certificate is the required qualification for all new practitioners.

Course content

What’s involved?

As well as practical experience through your work setting, you will also study units which will help you to gain the knowledge to work in supporting the development and care of children and young people. Units include equality and inclusion, safeguarding and the developing child. You will also study Functional Skills, the Paediatric First Aid Award and a Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People’s settings.

How will I be studying?

You will be working at your place of employment and you will be required to attend College for day release or for short workshops.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, you will need to demonstrate a good level of literacy, numeracy and ICT along with effective communication skills. You must be employed in a childcare setting and be able to provide suitable references.


The majority of the assessment will be carried out in your workplace by a dedicated and trained Assessor.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the Apprenticeship you can progress to further study such as the Advanced Apprenticeship or into a variety of job roles such as an assistant playgroup worker or an assistant in a nursery school.
