European Computer Driving License (ECDL) L2 at Ormiston Park Academy

Course description

The ECDL is the world’s largest and fasted growing certification of basic IT skills and is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a basic qualification in computing to aid their studies and career pathway. You can select this qualification to top up your studies or extend your learning in preparation for the next stage of your career or learning.

Course content

ECDL has seven modules which will all need to be passed before you can gain the full qualification. You will study the basic concepts of IT, using the computer and managing files, word processing, spreadsheet use, creating and updating databases, effective use of presentations, and use of information and communication through the World Wide Web.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above. There are no specific entry criteria for this qualification.


You will be taught in a theoretical and practical setting and assessed via online assessments.

Future opportunities

Your successes in this subject will allow you to list the ECDL as one of your secured qualifications. It will show employers that you can practically apply a good range of skills to any problem arising.

Further information

Opportunities lie to support the IT teaching department working with students in Years 7-11 and the IT Systems department in the Academy. OPA will support IT students using their newly learned and developed skills in and around the building to support the infrastructure. OPA6 will assist you in arranging for a work placement position within local businesses.
