Course description

WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR?

Those with a genuine interest in the world of the media, the texts it produces and the institutions which produce them

Those who enjoy the deconstruction and close examination of TV, films, radio, newspapers and magazines

Those who enjoy the practical production of their own media texts and the evaluation of what they have produced

Course content

AS Level:

Unit 1 – Investigating media

Unit 2 – Creating media

A2 Level:

Unit 3 – Media: Critical perspectives

Unit 4 – Media; Research and production

Entry requirements

CC at GCSE and /or C in English (for those who didn’t take Media at GCSE)

Assessment

AS Level :

Unit 1 – Written exam – 2 hrs

Unit 2 – Two linked production pieces (Taken from two of the three media platforms studied in Unit 1). Evaluation (written) on both production pieces (1500 words).

A2 Level :

Unit 3 – Written exam – 2 hrs

Unit 4 – Critical Investigation into a media text or theme with a linked production piece.
