Applied Business A2 at Queensbury School

Course description

This is a single award course which covers 3 units. This builds on the 3 units which should have been successfully completed in the AS Applied Business course. Students take part in practical activities which would be applied to business situations.

Units can be chosen which match individuals interests.

Course content

The word 'Applied' in the course title refers to the practical nature of this syllabus. Students will undertake work which they would be required to do in real life Business situations.

A2 LEVEL - There are 3 units of work to study as follows:

Unit 8 - Business Development: This is a compulsory unit and it takes the form of a 'controlled assignment' which is researched in your own time but must be typed up in class in 10-15 hours. This will be over the course of a few weeks. It is based on the business you studied in Unit 2 and it takes the business planning further in greater depth.

Then you can choose 2 from the following options:

Unit 9 - Managing and Developing People: (coursework)

Unit 10 - Marketing Decisions (90 min exam)

Unit 11 - Impact of Finance on Business Decisions (coursework)

Unit 12 - International Dimensions of Business (coursework)

Unit 13 - Organising an Event (coursework)

Unit 14 - External Influences on Business (coursework)

To find out more about each unit go to: ; 'GCE (Curriculum 2000) - 1st drop down box. 'Applied Business' - 2nd drop down box. Then look at 'Specification' for unit details.

Entry requirements

To have passed AS Applied Business to a grade E or above.

Each of the units are equal and worth 100 points. Grades are as follows:

A = 80, B = 70, C = 60, D = 50, E = 40

For A2 your scores from AS will be added to give a total of 600 (ie 6 units x 100 points each)

A = 480, B = 420, C = 360, D = 300, E = 240

This means that any units you do not do very well in, points can be made up from the units you're good at.
