Course content

This course will enable you to develop your literacy and numeracy skills as well as giving a firm introduction to the knowledge and skills needed to work with children.

This course will provide those who want to work with children the opportunity to obtain a Level 2 qualification. To enable progression to Early Years Educator status, GCSE maths and English will be studied alongside your course, creating a full-time study programme.

*Please note that GCSE attendance is mandatory for this course.

Entry requirements

Minimum requirements are 5 GSCEs (or equivalent) at D grade or above. It is essential that these GCSEs contain English and maths at least a grade D.

Future opportunities

There is opportunity to progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Play, Learning and Development, depending on the grades achieved in both your main qualification and GCSEs.

For learners who want to learn in a more hands on way, there is also the opportunity to progress on to an Apprenticeship.

Further information

All full-time students, aged between 16-18, will study GCSE or Functional Skills in Maths and English, if they don’t already hold an A*- C level GCSE in the subject. This is an integral part of their vocational study programme at BCA. Students over 19 are also encouraged to refresh and accredit their skills alongside vocational study.
