Health and Social Care A Level at Dereham Neatherd High School
Health and Social Care provides students with an interest in any of the caring professions with an invaluable and thoughtful perspective on contemporary issues in health and social care.
A valuable introduction for anyone wishing to work in any kind of people orientated career in the future and considering professions such as Nursing, Teaching, Childcare, Social Work and Counselling. Students must have an interest in working with people and be concerned with individual needs and diversity. This course allows students to rapidly improve their communication skills. AS Single Award
In the first year the key areas of study will include;
- Care and Communication
- Life Challenges and Disability
AS Double Award
In addition to the areas of study above students will extend their understanding by learning about:
- Health Conditions and Patient Care Pathways
In the second year all students will have the opportunity to explore careers in Health and Social Care in greater depth. Single award students will also learn about the importance of food and fitness in maintaining good health.
In addition to the areas of study above, double award students will also learn about two chosen mental health disorders. You will also learn about, and apply, psychological theories regarding human development, such as those of Piaget, Maslow, Freud etc.
Minimum BBCCC including English and Maths GCSE.
For each award you will complete one piece of coursework and sit one exam consisting of four ‘scenario’ type questions with a mixture of short and long answer questions relating to the case study given.
As for the AS level, for each award you will complete one piece of coursework and sit one exam consisting of four ‘scenario’ type questions with a mixture of short and long answer questions relating to the case study given.
