Music BTEC Level 3 at Coombeshead Academy

Course description

This is a Music vocational course based on four units of study. Each unit will last
between two terms.
It provides the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques suited to a
student’s personal musical strengths. A portfolio of written evidence is compiled
throughout the course.
The specialist unit enables students to study particular areas in depth.
The course also gives students the opportunity to plan and perform their own gigs,
go on trips to watch bands perform, meet outside professionals and work together
in peer groups to develop performing and overall musicianship.

Entry requirements

GCSE Music grade C minimum

BTEC First Certificate minimum Pass grade.

Future opportunities

All these Music pathways either lead naturally to a degree in Music or combined
with another subject. Other than work in education, musical performance and the
music industry, the study of Music at A Level has direct links with sound engineering,
radio, television and the theatre.
Music therapy is also now recognised as an important aspect of mental health and
the training of the handicapped. For brass and woodwind players it is also a
stepping stone for a career as a bandsman in one of the Armed Forces.
