You will need to have 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above and includng English, Maths, Science and Additional Science (or single sciences/BTEC Level 2 Science at Merit), suitable academic reference and an initial assessment.
The Diploma units are assessed through assignments and projects. Each unit is graded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction and at the end of the course an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
The Level 3 extended Diploma carries the equivalent UCAS points of 3 A-levels in Applied Science (a maximum of 420 UCAS points), which on completion allows you to choose whether to get a job straight away or go to University first.
BTEC Diplomas are particularly value by employers due to the way in which the application of science is studied.
If you want to get a job straight away you could work in:
• a forensic laboratory
• a hospital laboratory
• a research laboratory
• a laboratory in a school, college or university
Alternatively you could follow a path to higher education at a university or college studying forensics, specialising in your particular area of interest.
Classes are available at the Queen’s Gardens site. The college has large, well-equipped library facilities open to all students and include access to computers, CD-ROMs, Internet, videos, periodicals etc. There are also resource bases in many areas, which are available to all students.
