YOU MUST CHOOSE ONE SUBJECT FROM EACH OF THE SIX GROUPS, THREE AT HIGHER LEVEL (HL) AND THREE AT STANDARD LEVEL (SL)

Higher or Standard Level

This course comprises wide-ranging material from the three main areas of chemistry – physical, inorganic and organic with options in further organic chemistry and biochemistry. There is a common core which is taught at both Standard level and Higher level. This introduces students to the basic concepts of post -16 chemistry. Higher level students work on additional material, which takes them up to first year University standard.

Entry requirements

Students will normally be expected to achieve at least 3 A grades and 4 B grades at GCSE. They will be required to have A grades in the subjects they are going to study at Higher Level (A* grade in Mathematics). In the case of a subject not studied at GCSE, a grade A will be required in a related subject.
